I love Freecycle!
Last Thursday, there was a post on freecycle offering fabric. Well, free is one of my favorite things in the whole world. And I knew this freecycler. She's a really nice lady, and when I emailed her back, she told me when I could come. I gave her my phone number and she called me and said that if I came fairly soon, I could have first dibs. Well, I figured it would be worth interrupting my nap. I was right. Even though I had to drive all the way across town, she had garbage bags of fabric with most pieces being of substantial yardage and she told me I could take all I wanted. And even though I live in central Florida, where the temperature dips down below 40 degrees approximately twice a year, I am going to make me a cloak! Hooray!

Welcome to my little blog, Embrace the Imperfect. I chose this name because of an email a friend sent me this summer. In it, she wrote, "...as I learned from the Pueblo Indians, only God can make things perfect." That was such a liberating philosophy for me to embrace. It is amazing how much you can accomplish and how much you can enjoy life when you realize that nothing you will ever do will ever be perfect. It can be good, or amazing, or good enough, and that's fine.
I really like to make stuff. And I love to learn new crafts. And it is perfectly fine that some of the stuff that I make looks really amateurish. It is. And I can learn from my mistakes and do better next time. Or not pursue it all if I don't enjoy the process.
So this blog is kind of a work in process. Not sure how often I will update it, but I will have a lot of content at first because I have put off starting this blog but have taken pictures of stuff I wanted to share, so I do have a bit of a backlog.
Here is the pumpkin pie I made this week. I had neither pumpkin pie spice, nor evaporated milk, nor shortening, so I had to make substitutions. So instead of the cinnamon, I used Raz al Hanout; instead of the evaporated milk, I used heavy cream & some sugar; and instead of the shortening, I used butter. The crust was a little heavy and not at all flaky (more like a sugar cookie or shortbread), but the filling was delicious. We enjoyed it a lot. And here's a picture.
